Southern Planning Practice Ltd – Replacement Dwelling
Project –
- Countryside location on the edge of the AONB close to Kingsclere
- Country house
The site was formerly an old quarry in which a dilapidated dwelling stood. The proposal sought to replace the existing dwelling, of 103 sq m, with a substantial dwelling with a footprint of 267 sq m.
A previous application by another agent had failed to obtain a significantly larger property.
Key Issues -
- Countryside location
- Size
- Design
Design Solution -
Working closely with the architect, James Fowler, and the client a scheme was prepared to show that the design was informed by development on the site and in the area and that it would be well hidden so as not to conflict with countryside policies. Although the Officer rejected this analysis, the Committee strongly favoured the proposal.
